Temporary Work Visa for Foreign Professionals
The validity period of the Malaysian Professional Visit Pass (PVP) depends on the purpose of the visit and the applicant’s qualifications. The exact duration of the PVP will be determined by the Malaysian Immigration Department at the time of visa issuance. Below are some general guidelines for reference:
- Filming or performing: Up to 12 months
- Training: Up to 6 months
- Religious activities: Up to 3 years
Eligibility for Application
- Foreign artists (filming and performing)
- Stage artists (singing, music, dance, drama, acrobatics, circus, etc.)
- Filming (in Malaysia, but in collaboration with overseas companies)
- Production (filming)
- Performances (in hotels, cultural centers, sports arenas, etc.)
- Experts in art management and screen-related arts
- Islamic missionaries:
- Islamic teachers
- Qur’an teachers
- Arabic language teachers
- Other religious workers:
- Gurukal
- Grantee
- Pastor
- Guru
- Religious musicians and sculptors
- International students attending religious courses at a Bible college in Malaysia
- Government officials on official business (government-to-government programs/government purposes)
- Horse racing experts
- Volunteers
- International students participating in exchange programs or industrial training
Conditions for Technical Specialist Visa
1. PVP visa does not allow for dependent family members to join
2. You must be formally employed by an overseas company, with documentation proving that your salary is paid by that overseas company
3. The validity can be extended, but the applicant must meet certain requirements
– For example, if the applicant can demonstrate that they are still providing the same professional services as when the visa was initially granted, they may be eligible for an extension (subject to the decision of the Malaysian Immigration Department)
How to Apply for the PVP
First, you need to have a Malaysian company or organization as your sponsor. This sponsor will submit the application on your behalf
Submit the application to the Malaysian Federal Government Administrative Centre (Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration Department) in Putrajaya and prepare the following required documents for submission:
- Copy of passport
- Passport-sized personal photo
- Malaysian visa application forms (IMM.12 and IMM.38)
- Employment letter from the Malaysian company/institution (your sponsor), including reasons for employment/training
- Copy of the sponsor’s company profile (if available)
For international students:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Academic transcripts
- Agreement/collaboration proof between the current school and the sponsoring company or institution
Approval letter from the Department of Religion and the Islamic Religious Department (for religious missionaries)
- Bank guarantee/personal deposit
